So, the garage renovation work I started back in August is mostly done. We
now have three 20A outlets properly wired up along the outside wall, with
the whole wall properly insulated and the drywall hung; Erica just needs to
tape and mud the edges, and we've got a single piece of drywall that still
needs to go up. We also managed to hang the four flourescent lights, and I
still can't believe how much better the lighting in there is now; we've got
them wired up to a pair of switches, and a lot of old lousy wiring has been
replaced at this point. I still need to run a ground for an outlet that
doesn't have one, but that's about all that's left.
AMAZON::0865734291::The Complete Guide to Home Wiring, by Black and Decker::If you even think you're going to touch the wiring in your home, start with this book. It's proven to be an invaluable reference when trying to figure out the mess made by previous owners in our service panel and the rest of the wiring throughout the house, and figure out what's legal (and safe) and what isn't when doing new work. I probably would have electrocuted myself without this book. ;-)
Next up is getting all the scrap lumber we have left over out of there and
out to the curb, and picking up a bit more shelving for all the cra... er...
I mean... important stuff we've already managed to accumulate in there. I'd
also like to pick up a decent janitorial basin to go in there, and I need to
get a basic kit of medical supplies and a fire extinguisher to keep in there
as well, just in case (hope for the best, prepare for the worst). Come spring,
I'm hoping I can get a decent coating
down on the floor; I'll just have to be careful this winter when working in
there.
