The alternator belt slipped off the pulley on 06/01/2002, after a few days of "screaming belt syndrome". Not trusting the old belt, I pulled it and tried a quick start of the engine just to make sure all was good, and was greeted with a clanking noise. Took the car in to Brandy's in Lisle, and they correctly diagnosed it as a broken (separated) crank pulley, which they got in from Mitsubishi and replaced. I considered doing the upgrade to a lighter pulley, but the lack of harmonic dampeners on most of the aftermarket pulleys doesn't sit well with me.
