We had another North-Meets-South DSM cruise night on Saturday, and attendence
was probably the best it's ever been to date: we had a count of 53 cars at
the main pre-cruise meet-up location. Kevin McGrier, one of the ringleaders
who helped put this together, managed to get the local police department to
give us an escort and close off a few streets so we could parade unimpeded
to the expressway and into the city. A quick run down lower Wacker Drive,
then we waited at the end for everyone to catch up, and finished the drive
to Montrose/Wilson Harbor, where we all pulled into the huge empty parking
lot (which we filled up pretty quickly) and took in the fireworks. At 10:30
when the park closed, we all packed up and headed south to a Steak 'n Shake
in Orland Park, and from there...well...I got a chance to see how the Laser
launches without a race-prepped track. ;-)
It was a good night all-around; got to see quite a few quick (and
not-so-quick) DSMs, a turbo'd 4g63-powered Dodge Summit, a couple of Galant
VR-4s, and even an Integra came out to play with us. Folks from both Indiana
and Wisconsin made the drive in for this, which made for a great mix.
